Book launch: Love in the Silence - Carthusians & the Sacred Heart of Jesus
In his “Ancient Carthusian Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus” (2018) Fr Peter Joseph has edited, augmented and gathered together medieval and post-reformation texts and prayers preserved over centuries within the venerable Carthusian devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Join us on 16 November for the launch of this profound work.
With meticulous scholarly attention, Fr Joseph has revised the original French, Spanish and Latin texts in order to make them attractive and accessible to a contemporary English-language audience. He links these texts with contemporary prayer and with the austere but profound heraldic art of the Carthusian order.
In his preface, Fr Joseph writes “... before devotion to the Sacred Heart was public and general, and long before it became a universal feast in the Roman Liturgy in 1856”, Carthusians monks were “its lovers and devout clients in the solitude and silence of the cloister.”
Freedom Publishing Books will be selling the featured book on the night.
About the author: Fr Peter Joseph has revised, researched and translated a number of classic works. Fr Joseph has a Doctorate on “The “risen body” in St Thomas Aquinas” from the Gregorian University.
